Memorialization After Cremation
The Lexington Crematory, located on the community memorial grounds, offers many memorialization options to help families choose what is right for them. Cremation does not eliminate the funeral. Regardless of the order of events, funeral ceremonies can help the bereaved begin to overcome grief by emotionally accepting that a death has occurred. This period offers family and friends the opportunity to honor their departed loved one.

Prior to cremation, you may wish to have visitation and a funeral ceremony complete with the body of the deceased in a casket. Following the services, the body can be escorted to the crematory where the family may be present for the two- to three-hour process. Memorialization can follow at the family gravesite, scattering garden or a cemetery columbarium niche.
If cremation precedes any services, the cremated remains are usually placed in an urn, that will be in a place of prominence during memorial services. This urn is then taken to its final resting place.
Just as important as the funeral is a permanent place of memorialization. If no permanent memorial site is established, generations of survivors may experience regret that there is no focal point for remembrance.
